With modern, efficient news coverage we regularly encounter appalling images of the various wars currently being fought including those in Rwanda,Bosnia and Chechnya. As the efficiency of information suppression is eroded by the propagation of high-tech communications equipment, it becomes more and more apparent that the real heros of war are more often than not the civilians who have to carry on with their lives amidst the chaos being brought upon them by the war mongers.
On a night that is forged in the resident's memories from actual experience and from the ensuing legend, the town of Soham between Ely and Newmarket was saved from having been completely destroyed by the heroism of civilians who showed bravery and initiative to rival any shown by front-line soldiers.
